So we got a half of a lamb from the farm across the street, which included the front and rear shank. What to do? I had already prepared some navy beans, so I browned the lamb shanks in a big pan, with a little olive, garlic, and savory herbs (thyme, sage, rosemary), and then once they were browned covered them with my beans and two cans of Italian tomatoes. I think I cooked it all down for at least 2 hours, maybe more. Plenty of salt and pepper... and that's about it. Maybe you could cal it "Agnello e fagioli all'uccelletto"?
Pál Finta, my grandfather on my father's side of the family. I never knew him or met him, and before seeing this picture had never seen his face. This is him is as a young man, from my cousin Éva's collection of photos. We are still in Budapest but leave today - I will post more photos and more about the trip as soon as I get a chance.
Here is a photo shared from my cousin in Hungary, Eva. We have never met - but after I posted some information on line several years ago looking for my father's brother, she found me. We are planning a trip to meet her and her family and maybe her sister's also. My father had three sons, his brother had three daughters.
Charlotte and Tibor Finta, with my aunt Lois Mcelhinney (still a Narciso I at this point I think).
I am guessing this is 1959/60 or around there. A cousin from my mother's side of the family remembers the apartment - which I think must have been where they first lived when they were married - 3rd Ave. (or Second?) in Asbury Park. Maybe it was Tibor's birthday?
This was from an afternoon of ice skating in Florence in 2007:
I think I have to come up with a new word that describes things you find on your computer - digital ephemera - that you have no recollection of: files, photos, video clips, etc. that most times I can't even remember taking or making. I just came across this picture of us on our bed in St. Thomas. I was using my old Sony Hi-8 cam as a web cam, and I guess this was a test screen cap. Why this was in a folder for a Mexican website I was working on I have no idea...
